Shiraz is not the new Lindsay.
Johan is not Anand Subaya.
Pozy and Abhijit don’t make a Randolph and,
Anushka Manchanda and Monica Dogra are two different people, really.
But it’s hard not to draw comparisons. Shaa’ir n Func hit us with a sound and performance so unique, that anyone attempting something similar would have to be as good or better. At first, Shkabang seemed like a not-so-intense version of S+F- the blips and the bloops, Anushka’s dance moves, Shiraz’s beats- all of it…..
The opener was a bit of a mess- Anushka’s microphone was turned off or someone got the levels all wrong! However, there were hardly any forgettable tracks and I can recollect almost all of the names- Pray, Crazy, Why, Powertripper, Fight, Free, Asshole ( up on MySpace ). Powertripper is much like an electro- mosh pit anthem- angst filled, powerful vocals and ripping guitar! Crazy is the exact opposite. It’s a funky, dance-able tune which saw Anushka shake a leg with her girlies!
The ballad-esque Free was beautiful. It’s super cool that she sent out pre-gig SMS’s with lyrics to one song although most couldn’t figure out the melody right away. Now as much as I love their sound, Shkabang looks like it needs to work on a lot of things- for one, they need to get tighter. The live version of Asshole was somewhat disappointing and a tad different from the recorded one! Your first gig isn’t necessarily your best gig and I guess it applies here.
Apart from that, be sure to check out the hippest new thang to hit the “scene” - Shkabang!
-Hard Kaur wore the same thing to two different parties! *haw*
-Abhijit Nalani is the heart and soul of this band in many, many ways.
-Pozy can write some nice pop tunes! Smiling on stage wouldn’t hurt him.
-The funky rope lights were a huge hit!

Well, the vocals weren’t cutting through. That’s my first response. I watched S&F yesterday and I loved them. And I almost said “Wow, S&F sound like Shkabang…”
