DR as they are called in the Metal Circuit are one of the most popular bands around on the Indian Metal Circuit. They play a mixture of black/melodic/speed/death metal or ‘Demonic Metal’ as lead singer, Sahil Makhija better know as the Demonstealer would say. One of the most controversial, exciting and talented bands of the Indian metal scene, the history of Demonic Resurrection or DR as it is popularly known is, if nothing, a story of perseverance, respect and raw bloody talent. Though the line up has been chopped and changed many a time, the current line up is The Demonstealer - Vocals/Guitars ,Mephisto - Keyboards ,Pradeep - Guitars ,Husain - Bass and Viru – Drums. Some of their band influences include Blind Guardian, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Death, Deicide, Nightwish, Children Of Bodom , Lost Horizon and Kamelot.
DR have been playing to packed houses in recent times and have a fan base that is growing with every show. With heavy riffs and growling vocals that might probably wake up the dead or might probably make the alive think of the dead, Sahil definitely knows what it takes to make the Metal heads of our country headbang to his tunes in full throttle. Mephisto on keyboards brings a different dimension into the band altogether bringing back the darkness into black metal with his skilful and silky works of genius. In Viru (also the drummer of PDV), they have arguably one of the hardest and fastest drummers in India. The place where DR loses out on brownie points to a certain extent is on vocals. Though, The Demonstealer has one hell of a growl, he finds it difficult to sing along the lines of all his guest acts on his albums which in my opinion makes them a better band to listen to on a CD, than live.
With crowd favorites like ‘Frozen Portrait’ and ‘Aprocalytic Dawn’ being churned out with regular frequency, DR quickly transformed from the band that everyone loved to hate to the band that everybody loved. Also important to note is that DR have always played an ‘all-original’ set, save for of their cover of Dimmu Borgir’s ‘Spellbound’, as a tribute to one of DR’s idols. They are one of the few bands who have played at both I Rock and at the Great Indian Rock Concert, two of India’s biggest rock shows. DR has released albums such as Demonstealer(2000), Demonstealer (Re Recorded and Released) - 2001,A Darkness Descends(2003) and lastly Beyond the Darkness(2007) which was part of a split CD called Rise of the Eastern Blood. Since then DR has been touring the country extensively and writing new material for their next full length due for release at the end of 2008 sometime. The Resurrection has just begun …
