The One Tree Music Festival is possibly the only major Music gig in Bombay where one gets to listen to awesome, awesome music without getting ones feet trampled upon by some Rihanna emulating teenybopper’s stilettos or being faux-moshed by some wannabe metalhead types. Couple this great crowd with the awesome amount of real estate, owing to the relative obscurity of the artists performing (and of the genres too) and you get one hell of a concert.
Obscurity, of course, doesn’t mean the music is passable. On the contrary, the people performing were some of the best musicians around today, who not only know how to play their blues and jazz, but also know how to play our hearts, ruling them and make us leave shaking our heads at the misfortune of of the poor unfortunate souls who never got to attend or listen to real music.
Here are some photos I took of the Goddamn MoFos playing away to glory: From the unbelievable young genius of Joe Bonamassa and his own brand of SRV influenced blues rock and guitar wizardry to the veteran of blues, Robert Cray, who was more than ably backed up on the keys by the amazing Jim Pugh. The next bought in the light and breezy youthfulness of Goldspot with their poppish sweet 60s air, and then the mindblowing José Feliciano, a God on the guitar, a man with a voice like honey and sweet bourbon, who did amazing originals and kick-ass covers that could have given the originals a run for their money. For those who missed out on the music, here are the images.
