Dave Grohl releases “open letter” to Metallica
Former Nirvana and Queens of The Stone Age drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has released the following “open letter” to Metallica:
“Dear Metallica,
Hey, it’s Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I’m the guy that’s been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can’t remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I’ve been listening to your albums ever since (even ‘St Anger’!). “I can’t wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I’ll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I’m sure you’ll come out and blow everybody’s fuckin’ minds, because you’re fuckin’ Metallica!
Good luck. And don’t release it until it’s kick-ass.
Yours, Dave Grohl.
P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?”
I think what we can figure out from this open letter is that Grohl was probably one of the few people who actually made it to the last track of ‘St.Anger’ and that he would love to audition on the drums for Metallica, but then again, who wouldn’t? Dave is said to be one of the nicer and more jovial people in the rock industry and it shows in his music videos such as ‘Learn to Fly’ when he plays a quadruple role, that of a perky pilot, an obese 6’3 lady with sauce stains all over her clothes, a disgusting flight attendant and himself. It is a refreshing change to see superstars in the music biz showing some humility and respecting others rather than the constantly bashing and bombarding other bands with insults to get one up over them. Whatever happens, I’d love to see Dave record a few songs for Metallica as I certainly think he can give Lars a good run for his money. Either ways, whether he records or not, this letter just adds to the frenzy and to the fact that everyone (even fellow rockers) are ‘frantic’ally awaiting the eagerly anticipated new album of Metallica, which is scheduled for release sometime in September.
ps- Old school Metallica is what we want, and old school Metallica according to sources is what we’re apparently gonna get!
