Oh yea!

Reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaal useful.

NOW I WON’T BE ABLE TO ENJOY THE CONCERT AS MUCH.

Even though you did redeem your conscience by putting up a Spoiler Warning, i will let you know you killed the surprise of it all. And why, oh why did you have to list the encore ?

i just wish Tony Kenning was still alive. Leppard never sounded the same after he died.
Peace.

Def Leppard in India is not being organized by DNA but by the Network 18 guys.
And TicketPro is what DNA uses. There is a good chance someone else will be doing the ticketing for TV18.

So who all from here are gonna be there then?
Or like Rooshab in the Demonic Resurrection interview said, which all chordviners are gonna attend?

I am new to this concert thing, but do bands always play a preset list ? And they decide that there will be an encore beforehand only ?

@Joker

Either you are kidding or you’re a noob.

Yes bands always have a setlist, they don’t usually walk out of their bed and start strumming up on stage. And the only time a Leppard fan wouldn’t request an encore is if he had been trampled by a heard of elephants and had his head cracked open.

Yes i am a newbie, this would my first concert, and you don’t have to be so rude.

@ Joker

Yes it is all set from the start. But the playing is very spontaneous. You won’t be disappointed.
A tip though, try to get into the nosebleeds section or stay in about 1/5ths of the crowd from the front row. If you go up in the front, the crowd is gonna push you into the stage and crush you.

@ DJ Banana

Who stole your mickey mate? Relax. Its the boy’s first concert. We weren’t all born groupies.

Def Leppard is like the Prince of the metal scene. and i mean prince as in gay popstar, not ruler.

Lilydrums

@prateek

Def leppard are not metal anyway… they are (were?) glam rock…

Not everything with distorted guitars and a bit of screaming is metal.

Prateek, Def Leppard is the U2 of metal. not Prince.
Prince has gender identity issues, U2 only has populist ones.

And i like populist stuff.

Lilydrums

@zubin

U2, populist? I dunno mate…

i guess u can say tht about their last album, but seriously, look at their 90s era stuff… Zoo TV, Popmart, and all the postmodern pastichery or the eras crazy ass obscurist pop art creativity where they publicly trashed themselves, rock and commercialism and the celebrity culture before it became fashionable to do so. look @ their 80s era stuff… i don’t mean with or without you, which is no doubt a good song… look at stuff like sunday bloody sunday, or Bono lambasting the IRA in the middle of Ireland…

Populist? I don’t think so.

Lilydrums

& BTW even Leppard never called themselves metal.

Thank for the info Pratham & Kits.

@Kits
thanks foe the webie address. they don’t have any info up yet, but i’ll be watching them. The 18 thingamajig has gone so wild i’d be scared to sing ‘18 till i die’ without infringing on one of their company names.
Can’t complain though, they got Def Leppard here.

1)DEF LEPPARD ARE not POPPY….yeah sure theyve diversed over the years and later on (with slight hints on the pyromania album)used layered harmonies on choruses and a bit of syth i think…..
Either ways if simply ‘melody’ meant ‘poppy’ then you should discard all the ballads metallica wrote.

Some neat guitar solos,riffs and they created a new sound really to hard rock in the 80’s with their synth-like choruses ….. pioneers i would say

2) If you track leppard back to the early eighties(first 2 albums) they WERE indeed metal and fell under the NWOBHM category(new world of british heavy metal).Priest,Maiden,Raven and a few other bands played in this riff oriented metal style as well. Its safe to say that early leppard did have resemblances to early priest (with the screeching vocals and riffs)

3)leppard are postponed way down to winter sometime and are NOT playing a lot of their recent venues including India, due to Joe Elliott sufferring from a throat/respiratory problem.

“Either ways if simply ‘melody’ meant ‘poppy’ then you should discard all the ballads metallica wrote.”

Its like comparing chalk and cheese…. Metallica’s ballads spoke about hardships in life, spoke about melancholy,spoke about demons,monsters and fiction . Most of Def Leppard’s lyrics are about love and all happy gay shit…. How you can compare the two is beyond me… Forget the words, Metallica has this dark side to them in their ballads so you cant call them ‘poppy’… They have long 2 min out and out Metal solos whereas Leppard have these gay glam rock solos…. Some of the glam rock of the 80’s does come very very close to POP….. Take out the solos and you’d have a Pop fest with Def Leppard….

while I agree with Darth that Def Leppard are Glam rock - as I have sed before, and as they themselves have too - and so quite poppy, the statement that writing about “love and all happy gay shit” is a bit of over generalisation. Is Leonard Cohen poppish *its not poppy* simple because he writes about love or relationships? No. Are emos not fags simply because they write about melancholy, monsters and demons? No. Its not just what topic you take up. Its how you treat it. Floyd treated all their topics with maturity and dark, unflinching introspection. Marilyn Manson can make satanism sound poppy.

In short, choice of topic alone does not say how poppish you are or not. Its also how much depth there is to your work.

Leppards lyrics were never dark… more tounge in cheek.
As for the 80’s glam solos being gay, you’ve probably ignored some of neil schons work with journey,nuno bettencourt with extreme and dave sabo with skid row(in a darkened room)

Sure the 80’s hair,glam and even aor bands had a similar style(sound) in most of their music which you either loved or hated(no in betweens),but they were adept with their instruments and had a lot of variety and virtuoso ….michael angelo with ‘nitro’ , dee snider with ‘desperado’ or on a more popular note GNR with songs like estranged,14 years,coma and rocket queen.

They pretty much took off where the 70’s classic rock scene ended , adding gang like choruses,melodies,shredded solos and occasionally an acoustic touch to that era.
