Great Indian Rock - Dates and venues announced

This year, The Great Indian Rock Fest will feature some AMAZING International acts, that very obviously, will be headlining the show. Here are details about the headlining acts as well as gig venues and dates — -New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Satyricon

* Satyr (Sigurd Wongraven) - vocals, lead & rhythm guitars, bass, keyboards

* Frost (Kjetil-Vidar Haraldstad) - drums, percussion

* Steinar (Azarak) Gundersen - live guitar

* Jonna Nikula - live keyboards

* Victor Brandt - live bass

* Gildas Le Pape - live guitar

Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band, formerly known as Eczema. The band credits their First album, Dark Medieval Times, with starting a black metal subgenre that they dubbed “medieval metal”. The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with raw black metal blast beats produced by Frost, mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. On the next album, The Shadowthrone, this medieval spirit was continued.

Regarding one of their latest albums, Volcano, frontman Satyr stated in a press release / biography on their homepage that “the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented black metal is our philosophy.” It resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for “Best Metal Album”, an Alarm award for “Fuel For Hatred” in the category for “Song of the Year”, as well as The Alarm Award for “Metal Album of the Year” and The Oslo awards for “Best Overall Album”.

In March 2008, the band headlined the Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo for the first time.

A new single “My Skin Is Cold” was released on June 2, 2008.

Satyricon’s newest album is entitled “The Age of Nero” and is due to be released November 3, 2008

* Mattias “IA” Eklundh - Vocals and Guitar

* Christer Örtefors - Bass and Vocals

* Björn Fryklund - Drums

Freak Kitchen is a heavy metal/hard rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 1992. The high technical level of their compositions usually makes people refer to their style as somewhat of a progressive metal or progressive rock band.

Freak Kitchen’s style of music is influenced by many genres besides the traditional heavy metal, ranging from jazz to pop. The band described their third album as “A corny little heavy-pop-rock-latin-world-jazz-avant-garde-metal-blues-record”.

Lyrics contain heavy criticism against capitalism, conformity, racism and the attitude of huge record companies.

Frontman Mattias Eklundh is widely known as a guitar maestro, and live shows often contain parts where Eklundh plays the guitar using several foreign objects such as a mobile phone and a straw. Eklundh has also released three solo albums, Sensually Primitive (1997) (under the pseudonym Mr. Libido), Freak Guitar (1999) and Freak Guitar - The Road Less Traveled (2004). The band announced a new album “Land of the Freaks”, which will be released in September, 2008.

SAHG

Band Members

Olav Iversen-Guitars & Vocals

Thomas Tofthagen-Guitars

King-Bass

Sahg is a four-piece Norwegian metal band formed in 2004. After years of involvement on different ends of the Norwegian rock and metal scene, four hard rock devotees teamed up under the name Sahg. The band consists of King on bass, Olav on lead vocals and guitar, Thomas on guitar and Tor on drums. In mid-April 2006, the band’s debut album ‘Sahg 1’ was released across Europe, with numerous positive reviews on the album. ‘Sahg 1’ entered the Norwegian charts at no. 31, and the record sales continued to be much better than anticipated. The album’s positive reception resulted in Sahg shifting their focus into live performances. The band did some live appearances in Scandinavia throughout the summer, such as the Hole in the Sky Festival in Bergen, Norway.

Sahg was part of the Wacken Open Air festival in the north of Germany in 2007 and is expected to play at the 2008 edition of the Metal Camp fest.

With appearances at Bylarm (national Norwegian showcase festival and international music business get-together) and Inferno Festival, along with bands like Emperor, Cathedral and Witchcraft, a bigger audience had started opening their eyes to Sahg. The media attention was increasing rapidly, in Norwegian as well as international press, and the band received some astonishing concert reviews.

In September 2006, Sahg headed out on a three weeks tour of USA and Canada, supporting Swiss metal legends Celtic Frost.
