Martin Scorsese’s concert movie ‘ Shine a Light’ starring the Rolling Stones was premiered at the Berlin International Flim Festival this February. Scorsese filmed the Rolling Stones for two nights at New York City’s Beacon Theater on October 29 and November 1, 2006. Footage from the shows is intercut with backstage footage, historical clips and contemporary interviews with the band. The shows were noted for their star-studded crowds, including former President Bill Clinton.
Paramount Classics has postponed the release until April 2008 , so no one really knows how much of a rocker or a shocker this baby’s gonna be.
That has hardly deterred Scorsese, who has decided to follow up the documentary with a pseudo-film about the life of reggae legend Bob Marley. It is said to be ‘a lot more meatier than an edited concert telecast’.
Marley’s son Ziggy is co-producer of the new documentary, which has still to be given a name.
‘I am thrilled that the Marley family will finally have the opportunity to document our father’s legacy and we are truly honoured to have Mr Scorsese guide the journey,’ Ziggy Marley said.
