Albin Myers on DJing, his favourite clubs, Sunburn and more!
Tell me a little about your musical background. How did you get into DJ’ing?
I started playing on vinyls when I was 14 in my friend’s garage, and after messing around with it I played a bit with the local clubs before I got my own gear. Then I got into production and since the last 3 years, my hobby has suddenly become my business.
Who is the one producer you would love to collaborate with?
Even though its already been done, I’d love to collaborate with Will Ferrell…*smiles*…wait, that’s Pharrell Williams right? Hahaha, yes I’d definitely like to collaborate with him.
What have you been upto lately? Playing a lot? Or spending more time in the studio? When can fans expect a new release?
I’ve been touring a lot, there’s a few tracks coming out pretty soon, though I’m not producing anything as of yet on tour.
Which is the one artist that always inspires you?
There’s a lot of them! And everything everyone’s doing gives you something or the other, so you’ve got Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, Eric Prydz and even this friend of mine from Australia called Tommy Trash. He is coming out with some phat electro-house which really inspires me.
Tell us something about your MyBack project?
I did a remix for John (Dahlback) and then we got down to making a few more tracks and when we suddenly realized its clicking big time. So we said why not collaborate properly and we came up with a portmanteau from both our names, and MyBack sounded great. We are coming out with our new EP with has Fewra and Blomman, the new tracks and we’re really excited about those.
Gig of 2010?
You’d be surprised, but honestly it would probably be Sunburn, it was just amazing, I mean the sun, the open air, the crowd, it was over the top! It would probably be one of the 3 best gigs I’ve ever done; incidentally it was also my first stage dive so that was something great.
How was your Indian tour been so far?
The tour so far has been brilliant. Everything is so well planned, smooth and the crowd reaction to my music is amazing, couldn’t ask for more.
And do you plan on changing your hairstyle anytime soon?
Oh no man, I’m going to die with this hairstyle!
2 things you always carry on tour?
My Macbook & hair spray!
Favourite party destination?
Ummm …I’d say Sweden, because your business is partying, and you’re doing that all the time, so when it’s back in your home country, you’re partying with your own friends it’s the best destination for you.
If you weren’t playing Big Room and electro, what’s the next best genre you’d be hitting?
Dubstep definitely. In fact with this new song that John Dahlback and I did, it’s a mixture of trance, house and dubstep, and when people are going to hear it, they’re going to be like what f**k was that?
Favourite club in world?
Has to be Sankeys in Manchester. I played there a while ago and for the entire length of the four hours, the clubbers had their hands up in the air, it was amazing.
Most inspirational modern day DJ?
Has to be Sebastian Ingrosso, because you’ve got a lot of DJs who’re there on the consoles and doing their own thing but Seb’s got this energy, that if I went to see him I could feel the happiness and madness that he exudes- it’s crazy.
