Interview: Jalebee Cartel

Jalebee Cartel, probably India’s most popular, most loved and hottest dance music acts tell us about Sunburn ‘09 (presented by XXX Energy drink),  future releases, Bollywood and more!

Q.1 — How excited are you to grace Sunburn 2009, which promises to be the biggest till date, what’s the reaction been like to Armin and Roger Sanchez coming down?

This is our 3rd year at Sunburn and as usual we are super excited about the festival! Really looking fwd to hearing Roger Sanchez, he’s a legend!

Q.2 — How unique or different is your Sunburn set going to be, what new tracks can we expect?

We are working on an exclusive set for Sunburn, with a lot of new to-be-released tunes. We have also changed our sound a bit this year, so it will be more tech house, rather than full on Techno.

Q.3 — What are the future releases that we’re looking at from Jalebee as a whole and individually from the four of you?

We have a ton of new releases lined up for December and 2010! We are proud to have signed up with monster underground labels like BEEF Records, on which we have a 2 track EP called “Dub Suit” coming out, this one has already been supported by Josh Wink. We also have EP’s on Vapour Recordings, Mashtronic Records & Neurotraxx Delux. These should be out early next year.

Q.4 — Do you ever plan on diversifying your sound?  Maybe to a grittier, darker foray into dub, drum n bass? Or maybe a completely uncharacteristic shift to a smoother lounge or chill out or maybe even trance?

Who can predict the future? As a band and we always try and evolve our sound, never being stuck in a particular style, so you never know where the sound leads!

Q.5 — Can we expect Jalebee to jam with other electronica or techno artists to create even more mayhem in the future for live/DJ sets?

We do often jam with musicians but at the moment are working on adding more gear, more variations and newer tracks to our sets. But you never know…

Q.6 — What next? Ever considered remixing in Bollywood?

Well, we have a lot of projects in the pipeline, and are concentrating on our 2010 Europe tour. We do have an interesting film being done by a friend and will be working on the score for that late next year!
