Sutasi Finalists – Interview 1 – Indigo Children

Sutasi Finalists Interview 1 Indigo ChildrenJalebee Cartel,Indigo Children and Sidd Coutto-We talk to some of the India finalists for Sutasi.

Sutasi is a concept that has now been developed into a reality T.V. show with bands from all over Asia competing and collaborating in order to promote their music, and even Asian music otherwise, at an international level. The winners of this competition win a record deal (amongst many other things such as global marketing programmes to promote their music) and a chance to work with the finest and most experienced from the music fraternity. We spoke to some of the finalists representing India while they were in Singapore, shooting the first half of the show. Have a look.

Indigo Children (formerly known as The Superfuzz):

You guys have been around for while now and have quite a fan-following here in India. According to you’ll,what are the chances of Indian music (by that I mean bands) being accepted on an international platform? Do you think India could ever produce a band that could get as famous and popular as the international ones we see today? What are the glitches (as far as music is concerned) that have prevented Indian bands from reaching that level?

Yes, the chances are very good of an Indian band achieving international attention. Indian bands don’t give it their all. They want to retain their jobs, which is fair enough, but it doesn’t work that way.

Could you give us your opinion on a competition like Sutasi? To what extent would an idea like this one work when it comes to Asian music and bands (Especially ‘cause talent hunts have become all the rage these days..And winners are promised certain things..these promises are never lived upto..Take Lukas Rossi for example..His stint with Supernova seemed more like a publicity gimmick)?

Sutasi is a fantasic concept. Sutasi is hardly like an Idol or Launchpad where they were treating us like Circus animals. Sutasi was about interacting with musicians from all across Asia and collaborating with them and they were doing it for a good cause. We hope that Sutasi brings Asian musicians the platform they deserve.

What’s the one thing that separates you’ll from the other Asian bands that are competing?

We probably have the most ‘pop’ approach to our song writing.

Which country according to you guys has so far shown the best talent at Sutasi. If there was a band from any particular country that you’d enjoy listening to (referring to countries participating in Sutasi only),which country would it be and why?

Korea. IS, in particular is a band that we would want to listen to as their music is a bit psychedelic and trippy.

Lukas Rossi didn’t let the RSSN experience get him down. He has a new band call Stars Down and is starting a tour later this month. Check them out at http://www.starsdowninc.com .
