Sutasi Finalists – Interview 2 – Jalebee Cartel

Sutasi Finalists Interview 2 Jalebee Cartel

Jalebee Cartel, Indigo Children and Sidd Coutto-We talk to some of the India finalists for Sutasi.

Sutasi is a concept that has now been developed into a reality T.V show with bands from all over Asia competing and collaborating in order to promote their music, and even Asian music otherwise, at an international level. The winners of this competition win a record deal (amongst many other things such as global marketing programmes to promote their music) and a chance to work with the finest and most experienced from the music fraternity. We spoke to some of the finalists representing India while they were in Singapore, shooting the first half of the show. Have a look.

Jalebee Cartel:

Indians seem to love the whole concept of EDM…but it’s still not as big in India as it is the world over. Fill us in on your style and the audience you guys target. Also, what is the future of EDM in India?

Its taken a while for India to accept EDM and its people like us who are responsible for promoting the sound in India. India is on a brink of an electronic explosion as there are so many new artists and producers coming through, and almost all these new guys are making new music with the international scene in mind.

Tell us a little about Jalebee Cartel’s Sutasi experience till now.

Honestly, we were not sure what we had gotten ourselves into when we arrived in Singapore. But that was a good four days ago. For us the Sutasi experience has been amazing. We’ve met a lot of people; collaborations are in the pipeline, looking forward to many good things as well. We played at crowded food court with a couple of guys from the Japanese band Nemen, it was nuts, the music that all of us managed to churn out was brilliant.

Which country according to you guys has so far shown the best talent at Sutasi. If there was a band from any particular country that you’d enjoy listening to (referring to countries participating in Sutasi only), which country would it be and why?

Its difficult to say which country has shown the best talent because its almost impossible to compare artists who play different genres and styles. My favorite artists here have been Infinity of Sound (IS), Nemen, Indigo Children among others.
