1. Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey
“Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey” is a song written by John Lennon (credited to Lennon/McCartney) and performed by The Beatles on their 1968 album The Beatles, also known as The White Album.
In 1980, Lennon said: “That was just a sort of nice line that I made into a song. It was about me and Yoko. Everybody seemed to be paranoid except for us two, who were in the glow of love. Everything is clear and open when you’re in love. Everybody was sort of tense around us: You know, ‘What is she doing here at the session? Why is she with him?’ All this sort of madness is going on around us because we just happened to want to be together all the time.”
The song’s title is the longest of any in the Beatles’ catalogue, and it originates from a quote by the Maharishi; however, as for the “and My Monkey” part, George Harrison attested that he didn’t “know where that came from.”
2. My Guitar wants to kill your mamma
My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama is a 1970 song by Frank Zappa and a 1988 album by Frank’s son Dweezil Zappa.
The song appeared on the Mothers of Invention album Weasels Ripped My Flesh by Frank Zappa. It was also covered by Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai (the latter a former lead guitarist for Zappa himself) during the the 1996 G3 tour.
3. Punish the monkey
“Punish the Monkey” is the seventh track on the album Kill To Get Crimson by Mark Knopfler. The song is also the first single from the album, released in USA and Canada only, the European single being “True Love Will Never Fade”.
4. Dude looks like a lady
The song, which originally started out as “Cruisin’ for a Lady”, talks about a male with an effeminate appearance who is mistaken for a female. There is a story that the song was inspired by the glam look of the members of Mötley Crüe and their constant usage of the word “dude”. Steven Tyler says in the book Walk This Way: The Autobiography of Aerosmith, “Then one day we met Mötley Crüe, and they’re all going, ‘Dude!’ Dude this and Dude that, everything was Dude. ‘Dude (Looks Like a Lady)’ came out of that session.”
Joe Perry came up with the chorus riff, and Tyler came up with the chorus refrain.
In his recent book, The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe claims that the song was specifically inspired by Vince Neil, singer with Mötley Crüe.
5. My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down
The song was written by Dee Dee Ramone, Jean Beauvoir, and Joey Ramone in reaction to Ronald Reagan’s visit to a soldiers’ cemetery in Bitburg, West Germany in May 1985. Although intended as a reference to Reagan, the name Bonzo is not actually that of a person but was the name of the chimpanzee title character in one of Reagan’s movies, Bedtime for Bonzo.
Reagan’s visit to the Bitburg cemetery had been criticised in Europe as well as in the United States because 49 members of the SS, the Nazi paramilitary organization that helped run the extermination camps during World War II, were buried there. Some of SS members buried at Bitburg came from units that committed atrocities, including the murder of American POWs. According to White House Chief of Staff Donald Regan, Reagan viewed the majority of the soldiers buried at the cemetery as “simply soldiers of the German army…. There were thousands of such soldiers for whom Nazism meant nothing but the brutal end of a short life”.

This blog is simply smashing. In my humble opinion of course. As this post is rather debatable I don’t think all your blog visitors are going to agree with it.
