Split Unplugged at HardRock Cafe

split.jpg
Just when you thought that rock and roll was at its best with ripping guitar solos, screechy vocals and maddening drum beats, that’s when Split,an alternative/grunge band from Bombay, proved this theory wrong with their Unplugged set at HardRock Cafe the other night. Split is a five piece band comprising of some of the best talent the rock circuit has seen yet. Covering Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Nirvana etc. this band exudes energy and raw, pure rock from start to end. Aviv, the the lead guitarist was on fire and almost had one of his guitar strings snap! Or that’s what we thought. Garreth on vocals did an incredible job with ‘Cochise’, which in my opinion is an incredibly difficult song to cover. Other tracks included ‘Just’ by Radiohead,’Slither’ by Velvet Revolver.
A number of originals like ‘Build(Higher)’ and ‘Save Me’ which was a relatively newer song were also dished out.
Drummer Nigel was having a field day since he didn’t have too much work and was busy socialising…with the girls!Rhythm guitarist Melroy had the crowd asking for more with “I can’t stand losing you”. Back up vocals were brilliant.

And yeah, just to clear all of those misconceptions about Acoustic shows, these boys SURE made some noise!!

All in all, great gig, the highlight of the evening being Garreth’s Solo performance. And the waiters at HardRock sure know how to make their customers happy…with the Beers coming in, our smiles getting wider and our pupils dilating, we sure did get high and our heads totally SPLIT.

Mkay,bad joke!

Good Stuff!!! A little on the short side but yet effective cause it sends the message across!!! I know i’ll be checking out a few of their songs online now after this write-up…. ; ) Would have loved to see how they covered ‘Cochise’ and ‘Slither’ with an acoustic setup……
