Another Vertigo Rush - Murphy’s Law

AVR - Murphy's LawAVR is a band that believes in the Murphy’s Law more than Murphy himself, trust me, I know. In their much awaited and long overdue E.P., AVR has outdone itself by creating music that hasn’t been previously explored by other bands or maybe even if it has it hasn’t been done like this. The E.P. begins with Drop, an instrumental intro to the entire gamut of songs that follow. What follows next is ‘The Vibe’ sung by Rohan Solomon of Cyanide fame, although a good vocalist I really don’t think he did justice to the song, I would have preferred Viraj’s crass and outrageous vocals, they somehow fit the AVR way of putting out a song. The guitars sound awesome the pod x3 and Akhil’s style of playing really does justice to the sound of the song, the drum patterns are brilliant, they perfectly blend into the whole canvas that ‘the vibe’ is , once the bass kicks in you know the band means business, the bass is loud and heavy and sits in perfectly with drums. Next up is what I would call my ‘goose bump’ song ‘Om’ this song has it all great guitars brilliant vocals, Rohan did do justice to this song but I would have still preferred the previously mentioned crass and outrageous vocals of Viraj on this track, this song paces itself beautifully, from the guitars to the vocals and drums to the bass, everything just fits, it is by far the best AVR song, sheer brilliance. This is one song that will plant itself in your head, you never know when it’ll explode, once it does, you’re a convert, you’re AVR.

Conclave, when you hit the play button while this song is on the playlist, I suggest you embrace yourself for a trip that will redefine insanity for you. This song starts of with a huge and massive bass line, and it sound tight thanks to Nikhil Rufuzz of Superfuzz, with superb drums and a snare that sounds so ‘out there’ you’d want to air drum your way into oblivion. The guitars sound perfect which is largely responsible for the song sounding the way it does, and also mostly responsible for the ‘insanity’ I mentioned earlier. The vocals kick in with absolute randomness, Viraj starts off with ‘shaa’ for reasons only known to him, but by the times more sane vocals kick in the song has grown into a full fledged assault on your senses, and it redefines why they call themselves Another Vertigo Rush.

Prevail, probably the only song on which the drums sound a little programmed, but Akshat does do justice to it during live performances. The song starts off violently with drums, guitars and bass kicking in at the same time, but the brilliance of the song lies in its structure, it feels as if you’re surfing and riding a huge wave.

Anger Management, One of their oldest songs structured well and executed better. The songs flows from one end to the other in pretty much the same way everything else does not. This is one track where the vocals sound great, and perfectly blend with the entire soundscape.
The whole EP is brilliant, my only complaint is a band needs to preserve its sound and its identity, don’t give it out to someone else to do it, it’s your sound and yours alone. I would have loved it more if all songs were sung by Viraj, but I’m sure AVR has more than a valid reason for Rohan being there.
Chris Martin once said ‘It’s amazing how you can owe your entire life to 4 minutes of music’ I owe at least some of my life to AVR.
