Kryptos - The Ark of Gemini
Track 1 : Sphere VII ( 5 mins 19 secs )
Most of the good albums in any genre have a good first song and damn! This track is pure ownage! The intro is simply brilliant and the momentum is carried towards the entire song! The best part of this track is that there never is a moment where you feel like skipping or forwarding. Some thrash tracks have good riffing but weird drumming or vice versa but in this track the riffing matches the drumming. The solo at 4 mins 10 secs is good too. The lyrics is brilliant! This track has the complete package! This, along with Heretic Supreme have to be my favourite tracks in this album.
Track 2 : Order of the D.N.A ( 2 mins 45 secs )
A short and sweet track. Kind of pales in comparison to Sphere VII. So the first few times I heard this track it was an instant skip. But it doesnt sound all that bad after a few spins.
Track 3 : Heretic Supreme ( 4 min 49 secs )
A killer track! One of my favourite tracks of the album. The riffing from 1 min 50 secs has a Kryptos stamp all over it. Each band has some style which you cant quite explain what it is but when you hear it you know its a track from that particular band. The solo is quite soothing at the beginning and gradually picks up pace and has the traditional 80’s thrash feel to it. I’s love to see them perform this one live – it would sound absolutely amazing with some good sound.
Track 4 : Tower of Illusions ( 6 mins 17 secs )
This track is like a break from the previous tracks. The first three tracks were all fast, but his one slows the flow a bit. The track has a sinister doom-ish feel to it. Nice solo too! The timing for this track is quite apt, as an album with only insanely fast tracks would be a bore.
Track 5 : The Revenant ( 4 mins 54 secs )
Another good track. The riffing at the intro is superb headbanging material. This is one of those tracks at 3 mins 3 sec, which stick in your head the entire day, especially with that riffing.
Track 6 : Vulcan ( 6 mins 22 secs )
A slow and melodic track. I didn’t like this track all that much, but then again, that’s probably because Kryptos have set high standards for themselves. In comparison to other tracks in the album, this track doesn’t stand out much. However, in the rains, the melody of this track blended well with the dull, dark rain outside and the cup of chai which I was having! (What?). Try it out once and you’ll enjoy it too!
Track 7 : Trident ( 4 mins 55 secs )
The drums in this track sound good – killer beats! But it sounds a lot like Kryptos’s earlier material.
Track 8 : Liquid Grave ( 4 mins 18 secs )
Another good track in this album. From 2 mins 30 secs the track has a very distinct Iron Maiden feel to it.
Track 9 : In the Presence of Eternity ( 2 min 51 secs )
A clean outro.
I never had a favourite Indian metal band. I used to like and support each band equally. Now I have finally found my favourite IM band! This album is pure aggression and pure thrash!
I wanted to pick on something but I just couldn’t. The album is technically brilliant – Vocals, bass, guitars and drums – everything is spot on! However I liked the vocals in Spiral Ascent more .
On a scale of 10 I would give this album 9.
-0.5 for vocals and -0.5 because i wanted more tracks. Otherwise no complaints at all!
Definitely and absolutely a must buy album for enthusiasts of any genre of metal!
