Workshop – Khooni Murga

Workshop Khooni MurgaAccording to popular belief, when Satan and God had sex, the big bang happened. However since Satan was prone to multiple orgasms another bang happened…. and that’s how Workshop was formed. And now this prodigal band has gone a long way from there to launch their first album, “Khooni Murga” (means “Murderous Cock” in English), under Demonstealer Records. With The Demonstealer on vocals/ guitars, The Rajbot on guitars, The Rijunator on bass and The Hamzoid on drums, Workshop deliver a laugh riot on this album.

Workshop is both an English and Hindi band, along with Gujrati, Bengali and some other words not classified under any language yet. Their songs are not meant for the light – hearted and the album bears the necessary “Parental Advisory” logo. But nevertheless, they are innovative, hilarious and downright explicit. Workshop has played at a lot of gigs and each time leave the crowd in fits of laughter. The album starts off with “She Folked Up ,My Jazz”, one of the more popular songs at their gigs. This song has some really neat guitar work and fast paced drumming, as the Demonstealer complains about the girl who “folked” him up. A nice start to the album, followed by “Pudhe Sarka” which has some very catchy music. Next one is “Chatti Ke Saath Panga”, a spooky one which warns you about Daaku Kamla Devi who is hiding and waiting to pounce on you. Chatti Ke Saath Panga is sung in Hindi and has nice some really nice guitar work to back up lyrics like “Naach Meri Bulbul” and “Bhaago Bhaago Bhaago”. “I Came” is an ode to a girl who makes him “come”. This one has more of a rhythmic start and leads into some heavy guitars and drumming. The good part about Workshop’s songs is that while the lyrics are hilarious and mostly nonsensical, they make sure the music is good as well. “Garba Gaandu” has probably the most atrocious lyrics I have heard from the band and is about a certain horny Patel. This one is garba metal at its best. “How To Make A Demonic Omlette” is a hip-hop number which sees the Demonstealer in a totally different avatar, compared to the image he portrays in his other band, Demonic Resurrection. “Kothai Doro Cho” is a Bengali song in which he asks his “mishti doi” to suck his “lolly”. Like I mentioned earlier, it was necessary to have the “Parental Advisory” for this album. Then comes the track, which can easily be called Workshop’s finest works, “Bunty Aur Mallika Sherawat”. The video for this track was released online a while ago and was all the rage. The song explores the intricate love triangle between Bunty, Babli and Mallika, only to reveal later that Saif ends up with Bunty. This one is probably one of the funniest songs that Workshop has written. “Cookie Monster” is one of the songs that gives this album a little depth and is more of a love song about a girl who left him and stole his “thunder” but is one of the best tracks to listen to on this record. The album ends with the tenth track “Khooni Murga”.

“Khooni Murga” is Workshop’s first album and is a very promising one in terms of music as well as humor. Hamza does a great job on the drums and stands out. The music is strong and the lyrics are outrageous. The artwork for the album deserves special mention. Workshop plays a deliberate joke by interchanging the 3rd and 4th track on the album. They have already proved their mettle with their very successful stage acts and they are definitely a band to look out for and have a promising future provided they keep up the quality.
